Marriott hotels in Paris consist of three Courtyard by Marriott, one Marriott proper and three Renaissance hotels. None of the Marriott properties are particularly central, all but the Marriott Rive Gauche being out in the suburbs.

However, perhaps because of their US heritage rooms do tend to be relatively spacious and the Courtyard Marriott properties are very price competitive, especially at the weekend.
You may wish to swallow the inconvenience of a 20 minute metro ride into the city centre each day for the sake of the very comfortable hotels of Courtyard by Marriott with an attractive price for the grade of hotel.
It is only the two Renaissance hotels on and very near the Champs Elysees that can be called by the American term 'downtown'. For this you pay a significant premium.
The Renaissance La Defense may lack the charm and location of these two, but rates are often half that of the duo close to the Champs Elysees and the Metro only takes 15 minutes from La Defense and stops at stations all along the Champs Elysees and beyond to the Louvre and Notre Dame.

As ever, room rates are quite volatile according to season, rates tend to be much lower at the weekends and holiday periods.
The hotels out at La Defense and the Courtyard by Marriott properties are largely in business districts, so rates can drop significantly at weekends and holidays when the businessmen are at home.
