Single rooms in Paris Hotels do not need to be expensive even in the centre. Many Paris hotels of all grades will have dedicated single rooms with rates that are a little less than the standard double/twin.

If you are a leisure traveller you might want to check out the offerings from the Ibis and Paris Timhotel chains, though most do not have single rooms that do have good value rooms with the extra comfort factor of dealing with a known hotel chain you have heard of.		 Single Rooms in Paris Hotels
If you are a business traveller, you might perhaps use the Holiday Inn Elysees or Best Western Opera as benchmarks (bottom of the page). Both are very central and great value - though often booked up ahead as a result.

Best Western have quite a number of options in the central business area too.
If you are looking for budget rooms, the Montmartre and Marais districts are good places to start. Both close to the centre with plenty of choice.

There are also plenty of cheap places around the major stations, Gare du Nord, St Lazare, Montparnasse, and Gare de Lyon. As in most big cities, the areas around the major stations tend not to be good places for a single traveller on their own.
