- WHERE TO STAY
The Big Bus hop-on hop-off open top sightseeing bus is one of the two dominant classic double decker open top sightseeing operations in Paris. The other operator is OpenTour Paris which we also detail on a dedicated page.
There is a clear difference between Big Bus and OpenTour Paris hop-on hop-off sightseeing bus services.
Big Bus is the cheaper option as it concentrates on the main sightseeing attractions, while OpenTour Paris is more comprehensive venturing out beyond the centre of Paris.
Big Bus offer discounted tickets if you buy in advance online. In addition if you use our Big Bus discount code you also gain an extra 10% off the online price, meaning a 20% saving overall from the walk-up value.
The Big Bus option has a main route of 11 stops covering all the major sightseeing attractions in the very centre of Paris including the Eiffel Tower, Champs-Elysees, Notre Dame and the Louvre. This is supplemented by a shorter route that serves the Montmartre area, north of the city centre.
The OpenTour Paris alternative has 3 routes all covered by the same ticket. OpenTour Paris has a core central route similar to Big Bus and two other routes that cover the major sights outside the centre like Montmartre, Bastille and Catacombs and also the major rail stations including Gare du Nord.
Both have the option to add a River Seine cruise on to the bus ticket as an optional supplement.
Big Bus has 11 stops at strategic points close to the main places tourists want to visit. You can board at any point and hop on and hop off as many times as you like during the two day validity of the ticket. The main route is supplemented by a smaller route that interconnects with the main route and serves the Montmartre and Gare du Nord areas.
When you start your sightseeing Paris bus tour, you get a complimentary map of Paris to help you explore the city sights from the Arc de Triomphe to Notre Dame.
The Paris map includes the full colour route and stops, as well as details of the tour attractions.
You can view this map and the stopping points by clicking on the map banner link, left (above in mobile view).
If you don't hop off the main route takes approximately 2 hours 25 minutes to complete.
Buses leave around every 10 minutes, 15 minutes in the winter months.
Depending on the time of the year and on the boarding point, tours start between 9.30am and 8pm. To make a complete circuit back to your start point, you should board before 5pm, as after this time, tours terminate at the Trocadero.
The sightseeing tour offers a recorded commentary in your choice of English, French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, German, Japanese, Arabic, Korean or Mandarin. The commentary is delivered to you via complimentary earphones that you will receive when you board the bus.
You can buy tickets for 1 or 2 days, with the option of the river cruise with the 2-day ticket. The ticket doesn't include any admissions to attractions.
You can ride the buses as much or as little as you require for the days your ticket is valid.
On ordering you will be e-mailed a voucher which is exchanged for a ticket on first use in Paris. You may board the bus and exchange your voucher at any of the Big Bus stops.
