The
Puces de St Ouen is the largest market in Paris. It is really several
markets sprawling over the same area.
There is a traditional flea market that differs little from any other
similar market world-wide.

More
interesting to the visitor is the furniture and antiques markets.
Marche Dauphine, pictured right, above is a particularly agreeable
example, a gallery on two floors with interesting stalls, laid back
atmosphere with fountain and seats.
Elsewhere similar large markets normally particularly focussed on
furniture and antiques abound.
The market is only fully open Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. |
Getting
There:
Most people take the Metro
(line 4) to Porte de Clignancourt, the northern terminus of the line.
On exiting the metro, head north on the left hand side of the road
towards the orbital motorway which is elevated and easily seen. Just
before you go under the motorway, there is a large market, this is
not the official market and is geared to the tourist. On the other
side of the underpass turn left, parallel to the elevated motorway
if you want the flea market, go down the road at a 45 degree angle
left if you're more interested in the furniture and antiques markets.
A pleasant alternative is to get the number 85 bus. This starts at
Luxembourg and cuts through the city centre stopping at Chatelet and
the Louvre. There are always good maps in the buses and the stops
are well marked so you can always follow your progress along the route.
After the Porte de Clignancourt, the bus goes under the orbital motorway,
then turns diagonally left. It is along this road you find the antiques/furniture
markets. |
The
Paris Open Top Double Decker Bus Tours operated by L'OpenTour are
a common sight in Paris at all the major visitor attractions.
The formula is the same as many similar operations operating world-wide.
A ticket which entitles you to unlimited rides on the buses which
run along several routes passing all major Paris visitor attractions.
