The
RER is run by RATP, who also run the Metro
and city centre
buses.
As a result
train, metro and bus are tightly integrated, sharing ticketing systems.
If you are travelling within central Paris you can use a single ticket
which is also valid for Metro and buses.

Paris
Metro
For most people the Paris Metro is the transport of
choice travelling around Paris. Details of ticketing, lines etc. are
on our Paris
Metro page.
Running all along the Rue de Fayette, the main boulevard that cuts
through Arrondissement 9 connecting Gare du Nord with Opera is Metro
line 9. The main metro stations in the district being Le Peletier,
Cadet and Poissonniere. Unfortunately this line veers off just before
Gare Du Nord to Gare de l'Est with a tedious short transfer to Gare
du Nord, one of the main transport hubs in Paris. |
 |
This
line will also take you very quickly direct to Opera, Louvre and Pont
Neuf (for Notre Dame) before going over the Seine to some of the nicer
unspoilt parts of the Latin Quarter.
Boulevard
Haussman, anothe major boulevard into the city centre forms the southern
border of Arrondissement 9. Many of the hotels are sandwiched in the
area between Boulevard Haussman and Rue de Fayette. Along Boulevard
Haussman run Mero lines 8 & 9. Line 8 will take you direct to
the Eiffel Tower (Ecole Militaire), Line 9 the Champs Elysees (Franklin
D Roosevelt). |
Local
Bus
Although not as fast as the Metro, bus allows you to
see more and there are plenty of bus lanes in Paris to expedite your
journey. The Rue de Fayette is a major route used by many buses running
through Arrondissement 9 plying between Gare Du Nord and the central
Opera area. There is a bus lane all along Rue de Fayette.
The workhorse route is the number 26 that shuttles between Gare du
Nord and the St Lazare, main shopping area north of Opera.
For visitors, route 42 goes from Gare du Nord past Opera, up the southern
end of the Champs Elysees and over to the Eiffel Tower.
