The Champs Elysees lies west of the city centre running through Arrondissement 8 to the Arc de Triomphe before continuing to La Defense on the other side of the Seine.

Running along the entire length of the Champs Elysees is Metro Line 1 and is the defacto form of public transport into the city. Metro Line 1 also stops at the Louvre and stops very near Notre Dame. There are stations about every 500m.

Paris Metro
For most people the Paris Metro is the transport of choice travelling around Paris. Details of ticketing, lines etc. are on our Paris Metro page.

Charles de Gaulle (Arc de Triomphe) station is a major Metro hub with lines 1,2 and 6 as well as RER Line A. Line 9 crosses the Champs Elysees at its lower end at Franklin Roosevelt and goes through the heart of the other main shopping district in Paris in the city centre where the main department stores are.
RER Trains (including links to airports)
RER line A runs through Charles de Gaulle (Arc de Triomphe) station which also is a hub for 3 metro lines.

Line A goes to Chatelet where you can easily interchange to RER Line B trains to both of the Paris main airports.
Paris RER Train Map
Line A also continues eastwards as far as Eurodisney, though beware the line splits just outside Paris and not all trains run to Eurodisney.
The RER is run by RATP, who also run the Metro and city centre buses.

As a result train, metro and bus are tightly integrated, sharing ticketing systems.

If you are travelling within central Paris you can use a single ticket which is also valid for Metro and buses.

Air France Airport Bus Services
Air France operates a direct bus service from Charles De Gaulle to the Arc de Triomphe also stopping at Porte Maillot at the west end of the Champs Elysees.

If you are travelling at peak hours during the week delays through congestion on the motorway can be extensive and its probably best to take the RER train alternative.

Air France also run another bus service to Orly Airport from just across the river from outside Invalides RER/Metro station.
Like the CDG service, severe delays can happen at peak times through traffic congestion.

Local Bus

Although not as fast as the Metro, bus allows you to see more and there are plenty of bus lanes in Paris to expedite your journey.

There is a single bus, route 73 that runs along the length of the Champs Elysees all the way from Place du Concorde to La Defense.

It only runs about every 10-15 minutes and is almost always near empty. Because of the low volume of passengers it stops running early evening.

If you are visiting the Eiffel Tower a good way of going is to get the number 30 bus from the Arc de Triomphe to Trocadero (Line 6 of Metro duplicates the route). From Trocadero there is a spectacular view of the Eiffel Tower which you can then subsequently walk down to.
